Lea was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy when she was two years old. This condition causes generalized muscle weakness and limits Lea’s mobility. Lea started therapeutic horseback riding lessons two years ago when she was six. The therapeutic riding instruction provided by Kay and her dedicated volunteers has done wonders for Lea.  Not only has horseback riding strengthened Lea’s core muscles, it has also boosted her self-confidence.  Lea gets such a great sense of accomplishment when she completes each lesson.
The annual trail-a-thon, an event where the children can show off what they have learned, is an event that she looks forward to all year long.  SHADOW Equestrian’s commitment to helping children with disabilities is inspiring.  Kay and her many volunteers make each and every child feel special.  SHADOW has definitely benefited Lea in many ways.
